Lion King Jr. Musical: 3D Printed Headpiece Supplies & Patterns
This is my complete sourcing list for 3D printed headpieces in our Lion King Jr. school production — covering Simba, Scar, Mufasa, Sarabi, lionesses, hyenas, and Timon. Includes the printer, patterns, filaments by character, spray paints by mask color, and everything needed to finish and secure headpieces for stage.
Bambu Lab A-1 3D Printer: This is the printer we used for our entire Lion King Jr. headpiece build — reliable, fast, and beginner-friendly enough for a volunteer with no prior 3D printing experience.
3D Pattern "Lion King JR" LOVE these 3D patterns. Easy to download, adjust size and density and look exactly as the do in the photos!
3D Pattern: Shenzi, Banzai, Ed These 3-D prints brought these characters to life and tough when made with PLA Filament...survived middle schoolers!
3D Pattern: Lion Medallion (Mufasa)
PLA Matte Filament for 3D Printing: We used Matte Desert Tan for Simba and the lionesses — the matte finish eliminates stage glare better than standard PLA.
PLA Matte Filament for 3D Printing: We used Matte Nardo Gray for the Hyenas — the matte finish eliminates stage glare better than standard PLA.
(Scar Mask) Rust-Oleum Oil Rubbed Bronze — Metallic Paint & Primer in One. We used this color for our Scar Mask...the metallic sheen gave it that little "extra" Scar needed.
(Mufasa and Sarabi mask) Rust-Oleum Universal Metallic Spray Paint – Pure Gold. This is a great Gold color...not too yellow. I had this sitting around and used it for the Lion Medallion.
(Lioness and Timon mask) Rust-Oleum 2X UltraCover Spray Paint – Khaki Matte or Gloss. This was the perfect base color for my Lion 3-D mask prints.
Sharpie Water-Based Acrylic Brush Markers (12-Pack). Used these for the details (eyes, ears, nose, etc) on the 3D printed masks. Easy to work with!
Baseball Hat | Costume Headpiece Base (Grey). My FAVORITE "base" hats. I use these in almost all my shows one way or another. They have good form and stay on the actors head. This was used for the Hyena costumes.
Baseball Hat | Costume Headpiece Base (TAN). Great Hat for all your headpiece needs. Has strong structure, stays on the head of the actor and is comfortable. I use these hats in all my shows one way or another.
Elastic with Silicone Grip (tan, black, white). Silicone Grip is my secret weapon from keeping strapless tops in place to head pieces on the head without discomfort.
Elastic with Silicone Grip (tan, black, white). Elastic with Silicone Grip (tan, black, white). Silicone Grip is my secret weapon from keeping strapless tops in place to head pieces on the head without discomfort. I used this color for Scar.
Wooden Teardrops- Mufasa Mask. I painted these budget-friendly tear drops gold and glued them to Mufasa Head pieced. They are very light and added little to no weight to the headpiece.
Surebonder Cordless Hot Glue Gun, High Temperature. I think I'm on my 3rd Surebonder as they keep dissappearing. I'm pretty sure other people like them as much as I do!
Gorilla Glue sticks...these "hold". I only use this brand as it rarely lets me down. If it does...E6000 for the save but not very often.
Foam Heads (costume headpiece storage base). To take store Lion King JR headpieces I purchased these from the Party City going out of business (50 cents). Make sure to secure them to somthing or they will tip over.
